WWYD?
Laurie Roberts of the Republic asks WWJD- as in What Will Jan Do sign the budget or veto what is basically the same budget she vetoed before. So put yourself in Jan's shoes, what would you do? If you sign it, you sign a budget you know is out of balance and makes you wish the world ended before having to deal with the 2011 budget. If you veto it, you risk the state running out of money and then you're really in a world of hurt- if it's even possible to be worse then we are now.

I think she needs to veto it and negotiate with the Democratic caucuses in the lege.
I'm not saying that just because I'm a Dem, either.
It's time to pass a balanced budget, without gimmicks or tax cuts, or even tax hikes.
The gimmicks and the cuts will just make things worse down the road, and a temporary sales tax hike isn't going to pass the lege (even if you could get all of the Dems on board, which is far from guaranteed) and it probably wouldn't pass the electorate (even Dems won't vote for it, not if it is only going to be used to pay for tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy).
Veto the mess, and then settle down to just balance the budget. It will hurt, but it's time for everyone to act like professional elected officials who were hired to do a job, and that job is to oversee the *operation* of state government, not its dismantling.
